Nomination Criteria

Eligibility

  • Minimum of 30 years of employment in or service to the tourism industry
  • Previously granted at least one national or provincial/territorial tourism-related award

Assessment

Nominations that meet the eligibility requirements are reviewed by the TIAC President and CEO, resulting in a short list which is presented to the association’s Board of Directors for consideration during its annual spring meeting.

TIAC’s Board of Directors will evaluate how each nominee meets the following overriding standard:

How is the tourism industry better today as a direct result of this individual’s contribution and is there an incremental difference to tourism competitiveness or capacity to welcome travellers because of their efforts?

Additionally, their assessment will be based on their contribution to some, but not necessarily all of the following criteria:

  • Tourism related student/youth programs
  • Product development/entrepreneurship
  • Human resources development
  • Physical or organizational development of the industry
  • Humanitarian contributions
  • Contribution to advocacy/lobbying efforts
  • Media/public relations contributions
  • Marketing contributions
  • Service to the industry beyond their business work
  • Aboriginal and cultural tourism contributions
  • Sustainable tourism contributions
  • Industry partnerships
  • Innovation and leadership

Individuals may be considered for induction into the Canadian Tourism Hall of Fame posthumously.
